Welcome to our new home! We are now situated at Markeaton Park Craft Village in Derby.
Phew! it’s been a busy month getting prepared and ready to open but we are now up and running. It has been such a delight meeting all the lovely people coming through the craft village and getting to know the other business owners too.
We have a range of fresh flowers and plants on sale as well as artificial flowers too. I will eventually be incorporating some craft ideas which include flowers and running some workshops throughout the year so keep an eye out for those.
I do update the Suzy Blues Flowers Facebook page every day so please give us a like there and look out for any offers. Thank you to everyone who has given their support, popped down to see us so far and all those who have just said a quite hello when passing, it really means a lot.
I will be giving this website a bit of a makeover soon to bring it up to date so be prepared for that but it’s all exciting and a new start for Suzy Blues. Come on in and join the fun.
If you can’t get down to the park please get in touch here or give us a call.
Thank you for reading!
Firstly I have to apologise for not keeping my blog up to date just recently, it’s been so busy but we now have some new stock here in time for Christmas.
Yes not long now so if you need something pretty to hang on your door or as a gift idea then these new wreaths are just what you need.
They measure 12 inches (30cm) except for the one on the top left which is 16 inches (40cm). They are all artificial so you can wrap it up after Christmas and pop it away until next year to use again.
Please get in touch for anything you may need for this Christmas period including table decorations in fresh or artificial materials.
Bye for now…..
A birthday bouquet with a difference. I used a selection of Anthirium, Astilbe, English Larkspur, Vuvuzela Roses, Eucalyptus, Chrysanthemums and Pistacia Leaves in fresh flowers and foliage but added a collar around the bottom of this arrangement with cream artificial Peonies.
This enabled me to decorate the top of the box with flowers rather than packing it with lots of cellophane. It not only looks pretty but the customer gets to keep flowers….forever.
I tied a little tag around one of the artificial flowers saying ‘keep me’ just to remind the customer to keep hold of these flowers and use them elsewhere. A fabric heart pick was also added for that extra little touch too.
I seem to get a lot of requests for the more natural bouquet and people seem to favouring these free meadowy looking flowers which I think works…..after all the customer is always right. I love this type of bouquet as you can literally go a bit wild with it, it doesn’t have to have a uniform shape, nice floaty flowing lines…..oh I’m in floral design heaven. More requests for these please!!
It is a bit frowned upon to even think of putting artificial flowers with fresh ones but I’m breaking the rules and when all the fresh ones die off there will still be a token of this bouquet behind as a reminder and I like that.
We are here for any arrangement in any way you would like it……August sees Gladioulus and the Poppy as birth flowers so why not try a birthday bouquet including any of these blooms….for now though….
Thank you for reading and feel free to enquire about your flowery needs.
Here at Suzy Blues I like to think of different ideas for gifts so I will always share other creative ideas for gifts, still on a theme of flowers but just a change from bouquets and arrangements.
Here I have used a Deep Box Frame and personalised it to someone special, in this case my mum. I used the wooden scrabble letters to associate some words to her personality and beautiful self and then added pictures of her favourite things.
Photographs can be added as well as names or anything that would relate to your special someone and the background can be changed to any colour too. The frames are available in Pine, Black, White and Blue. The size of this particular one is 20cm x 20cm (visual size) (external size 24.5cm) but they are available in 7.5cm square, 15cm, 30cm and 40cm (blue only available in size 20cm). The depth of this frame is 24mm and there is a metal hook on the back to enable you to hang it on a wall.
I love thinking of different ideas especially like this where it can be made personal creating memories for birthdays, weddings, a new baby or in memory.
Thank you for reading today.
A subject that a lot of us think about now after watching The Blue Planet is the amount of plastic we use in everyday life.
I’ve started to think a lot about the wrapping we use in the floristry industry and whether we really need to use as much as we do. I’m also considering other materials such as the foam which we use for arrangements and also decorative items too. Some cellophane used in the wrapping process is biodegradable and now a lot of the floral foam is being made to be sustainable but I still think we could use less.
I have been using a new box for the boxed aqua bouquets which means using less cellophane around the bouquet and providing more focus on the flowers rather than the wrapping. When you unwrap a birthday present you do tend to cast away the wrapping and it is what’s inside which is important. So the new Floralbox consists of the box itself and a plastic bag to hold the water, the bouquet is literally placed within the plastic liner and the boxed secured together, and that’s it, less cellophane overpowering the flowers. Yes we do still have to use a plastic bag but it is a start to improving the use of unnecessary material
Before these new boxes we would make an aqua bag around the stems using cellophane and then wrap the bouquet itself in more cellophane so you can see the amount of wrapping is reduced considerably. The bags in these new boxes are really thick and if washed out really well you could actually re use them for other purposes. I have been using the hessian wrap for some of my bouquets and raffia to tie them off with. The hessian like some cellophane patterns can be re used in crafting projects such as collages or used in card making, I am also happy to take the hessian back and reuse in other projects myself.
It is something that I am going to think of a lot in the future of Suzy Blues. There may be instances when we need to use certain materials but wherever possible I am going to make sure we remain as sustainable as possible for David Attenborough, and the planet of course.
Thank you for reading today. Remember we are always here for all your flowery needs so feel free to get in touch.
It’s coming around to that time of year again, the time of hearts, flowers, romance…..a nice meal maybe even a proposal ???
For me well I’m a single florist but I get so much enjoyment and pleasure out of creating something for other people’s special moments. I just love it!! oh there you go I mentioned the LOVE word. And let’s use this time to spread a little love. You don’t have to be in a relationship to send flowers, use this time to tell anyone you’re thinking of them and you love them. Even if you don’t particularly like roses there are so many other blooms to consider. Just ask, I can tell you.
Some say we should show our love all year around and not just on Valentines Day and yes I agree so here at Suzy Blues we are here whenever you need us, whatever the occasion.
Pictured here I have the classic single red rose, a bouquet of 6 red roses, the traditional dozen red roses wrapped in a hessian fabric and complimented with soft ruscus, a little eucalyptus and wheat, finished with a raffia bow. There is also the box of 12 roses and soft ruscus, these are presented in water and can be personalised too if you would like that added touch.
All these arrangements include the premium Freedom Roses which are a beautiful quality classy rose for that big impact or a subtle message with one on it’s own. Either way these designs will sure impress your special someone and look stunning on display.
Only just over a week now so get thinking and most of all get ordering……don’t get left out on Wednesday 14th February…..there you go I even reminded you of the date.
Get in touch if you see anything you like here at Suzy Blues.
Thank you for reading.
I do like a bit of a wild bouquet with a kind of rustic feel. It makes a change from the more traditional bouquet wrapped in cellophane which I do admire but it is nice to think outside the box a bit sometimes and design something a bit different.
This bouquet is a mix of the following flowers wrapped in a simple hessian square and tied with raffia bow.
I also took some of these flowers and made a small arrangement which is perfect standing in the living room but with an added parcel tag it would suit any table decoration for an event or a wedding.
If you like anything that you see here on my blog please do contact me.
