The birth flowers for the month of January are carnations and snow drops.
I do love carnations, some find them a bit old fashioned but I just love the shape and their frilly appearance. They also come in array of fabulous colours so compliment any arrangement. White carnations symbolise pure love and good luck, light red for admiration and a dark red would represent deep love and affection. So they are a flower to be used in any bouquet if someone means a lot to you or maybe in a wedding bouquet.
Snow drops are just so dainty and remind me of winter, probably through their name (funny that). I love to see them peering through the snow if we get any during our winters here in the UK. They seem to be a bit on the warm side at present so we may have to wait a while for some snow. Snow drops are the first flower of the year, taking us through a transition from winter into spring so therefore these flowers symbolise hope for the up and coming year ahead.
If you are considering and floral arrangement or tribute then bear in mind including these flowers this month. Thank you for reading and if there is anything you do require regarding flowers, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Bye for now…..
I love a nice flowery headdress, it makes me feel all summery and a little bit like I belong in the sixties, all that flower power.
They really do make a nice compliment to a bridal party, no not necessarily on the groom but hey it could work. Always very popular with young flower girls using a variation of flowers. A simple headdress made from Gypsophila can be just perfect for very young bridesmaids as its light and not too much fuss.
They can also be made from fresh flowers or like here, pictured in artificial flowers too. If getting married abroad these will remain perfect on the way to your destination, will keep vibrant right through the ceremony and as a keepsake afterwards. I have seen a lot of the the dainty headdresses worn at a lot of festivals too recently, so we can produce nice little daisy chain rings to pop on while enjoying your favourite music.
So many events where you can wear a headdress…..so get in touch…..they can be made big or small with you favourites flowers in any colour so what you waiting for hippy chicks…..go for it!
It’s coming around to that time of year again, the time of hearts, flowers, romance…..a nice meal maybe even a proposal ???
For me well I’m a single florist but I get so much enjoyment and pleasure out of creating something for other people’s special moments. I just love it!! oh there you go I mentioned the LOVE word. And let’s use this time to spread a little love. You don’t have to be in a relationship to send flowers, use this time to tell anyone you’re thinking of them and you love them. Even if you don’t particularly like roses there are so many other blooms to consider. Just ask, I can tell you.
Some say we should show our love all year around and not just on Valentines Day and yes I agree so here at Suzy Blues we are here whenever you need us, whatever the occasion.
Pictured here I have the classic single red rose, a bouquet of 6 red roses, the traditional dozen red roses wrapped in a hessian fabric and complimented with soft ruscus, a little eucalyptus and wheat, finished with a raffia bow. There is also the box of 12 roses and soft ruscus, these are presented in water and can be personalised too if you would like that added touch.
All these arrangements include the premium Freedom Roses which are a beautiful quality classy rose for that big impact or a subtle message with one on it’s own. Either way these designs will sure impress your special someone and look stunning on display.
Only just over a week now so get thinking and most of all get ordering……don’t get left out on Wednesday 14th February…..there you go I even reminded you of the date.
Get in touch if you see anything you like here at Suzy Blues.

I do like a bit of a wild bouquet with a kind of rustic feel. It makes a change from the more traditional bouquet wrapped in cellophane which I do admire but it is nice to think outside the box a bit sometimes and design something a bit different.
This bouquet is a mix of the following flowers wrapped in a simple hessian square and tied with raffia bow.
I also took some of these flowers and made a small arrangement which is perfect standing in the living room but with an added parcel tag it would suit any table decoration for an event or a wedding.

I was honoured to be asked to provide flowers for an event at the weekend. It was the 11th Anniversary Stardust Black Tie Ball for a beautiful charity called Me & Dee.
The Me & Dee Charity is a local Derby charity run singled handedly by Maria Hanson MBE It was her dream along with her cousin Delia to provide seaside breaks for those with life limiting illnesses and short precious lives enabling them to have that vital respite and to make some wonderful memories. Sadly Delia lost her battle with cancer in 2005 so Maria carries on that dream and along with her own disabilities she works all hours bringing happiness to many many people. The charity provide holidays on the east coast of the UK in Mablethorpe. These are available to anyone with a life threatening, life limiting illness and also ex serving military who have sustained serious injury and PTSD through their service.
So this event held at The Hilton, St Georges Park National Football Centre near to Burton on Trent in Staffordshire allowed 280 people to come together and raise as much money as possible to allow this charity to continue it’s magical work. It was fun glittery and a good time was had by all. Lovely food and dancing well after midnight, no I didn’t lose my glass slipper but I was ready to take my shoes off by the end.
Daisies and Poppies are the symbols for the charity and I provided artificial ones which were placed in vases around the welcome reception area. I also provided two gift bouquets as raffle prizes. These bouquets were made up of:
red roses, red gerbera, chrysanthemums, carnations, aspidistra leaves and beargrass.
All my services were given free of charge as a gift. It was a privilege to be able to contribute as I love this charity, it is truly very close to my heart. I hope I can help more in the future.
