Here at Suzy Blues I like to think of different ideas for gifts so I will always share other creative ideas for gifts, still on a theme of flowers but just a change from bouquets and arrangements.
Here I have used a Deep Box Frame and personalised it to someone special, in this case my mum. I used the wooden scrabble letters to associate some words to her personality and beautiful self and then added pictures of her favourite things.
Photographs can be added as well as names or anything that would relate to your special someone and the background can be changed to any colour too. The frames are available in Pine, Black, White and Blue. The size of this particular one is 20cm x 20cm (visual size) (external size 24.5cm) but they are available in 7.5cm square, 15cm, 30cm and 40cm (blue only available in size 20cm). The depth of this frame is 24mm and there is a metal hook on the back to enable you to hang it on a wall.
I love thinking of different ideas especially like this where it can be made personal creating memories for birthdays, weddings, a new baby or in memory.
Thank you for reading today.
If you are treating someone to flowers for their birthday it may be a good idea to look at what their birth flower is. We spend a lot of the time trying to decide what flowers to buy for someone and there are occasions when we are not quite sure. Using someones birth flower can inspire and focus for a fabulous bouquet.
If you were born this month in June you would be looking at the rose for your birth flower. Beautiful flowers which you can’t really go wrong with. Just watch out though as each colour of rose has it’s own meaning. For instance white roses signify innocence and purity, a pink rose means perfect happiness, a red rose says ‘I love you’ but a yellow rose coveys jealousy or a decrease in love so just watch that one.
As we look towards next month, the summery month of July, your birth flower would be the Larkspur. These flowers have a lovely fragrance and also have different meanings depending on the colour. The purple (seen above) symbolises first love, white means happiness and pink denotes contrariness. A good flower for this month as it represents strong bonds of love so a good flower to give to someone who is close to your heart.
I’ll continue to let you know further birth flowers as we continue through the year. Always ask you florist for advice as there are so many meanings to flowers and a good florist will be able to give you inspiration for the perfect bouquet for a gift, event or for sympathy flowers too.

It’s coming around to that time of year again, the time of hearts, flowers, romance…..a nice meal maybe even a proposal ???
For me well I’m a single florist but I get so much enjoyment and pleasure out of creating something for other people’s special moments. I just love it!! oh there you go I mentioned the LOVE word. And let’s use this time to spread a little love. You don’t have to be in a relationship to send flowers, use this time to tell anyone you’re thinking of them and you love them. Even if you don’t particularly like roses there are so many other blooms to consider. Just ask, I can tell you.
Some say we should show our love all year around and not just on Valentines Day and yes I agree so here at Suzy Blues we are here whenever you need us, whatever the occasion.
Pictured here I have the classic single red rose, a bouquet of 6 red roses, the traditional dozen red roses wrapped in a hessian fabric and complimented with soft ruscus, a little eucalyptus and wheat, finished with a raffia bow. There is also the box of 12 roses and soft ruscus, these are presented in water and can be personalised too if you would like that added touch.
All these arrangements include the premium Freedom Roses which are a beautiful quality classy rose for that big impact or a subtle message with one on it’s own. Either way these designs will sure impress your special someone and look stunning on display.
Only just over a week now so get thinking and most of all get ordering……don’t get left out on Wednesday 14th February…..there you go I even reminded you of the date.
Get in touch if you see anything you like here at Suzy Blues.

I do like a bit of a wild bouquet with a kind of rustic feel. It makes a change from the more traditional bouquet wrapped in cellophane which I do admire but it is nice to think outside the box a bit sometimes and design something a bit different.
This bouquet is a mix of the following flowers wrapped in a simple hessian square and tied with raffia bow.
I also took some of these flowers and made a small arrangement which is perfect standing in the living room but with an added parcel tag it would suit any table decoration for an event or a wedding.

I thought I’d treat myself to a brand new pinny or should I say apron/overall for the new year. I’m hoping this apron is going to be very busy and help me to bring lovely designs to lots of people.
I hope you enjoyed the Christmas period and the New Year celebrations whether you partied until dawn or just lounged around in your pyjamas. There have been some fabulous floral designs around this Christmas, Graham Norton’s tv show won my award for most festive flowers. I was so distracted by all the flowers that I had to watch the programme again to pay attention to the guests and to Graham of course. Sorry Graham! There were flowers everywhere including a full archway too. Congratulations to the designer who created them all, so jealous! I always think it’s great to have a little envy and respect to other florists, it gives you the drive to create your own designs and gather confidence to improve.
So here we go into 2018, I wish you all the best in whatever you have planned, please bear us in mind for any special dates, events or moments where we can help make life a little easier.
Thanks for reading and join me again very soon.
Now I’ve never been a big fan of plants so much, I do keep a few in the garden but always felt a pull more towards flowers than plants, well until now.
I do love these mixed planters as they make an excellent gift idea and they look really pretty. My mum is plant crazy, w can never pass a garden centre without going in and buying the whole plant section. You know that scene in Jaws where they are hunting the shark itself and there is that classic line ‘we’re gonna need a bigger boat’ well I quote a similar line which is ‘we’re gonna need a bigger car’ when it comes to plant buying with my mum.
Yes you’ve guessed it, she has already snapped one of these up and they have actually given me a new love for plants, I may reconsider now and learn to love the plant. It has given me a bit of inspiration for more ideas for gifts as an alternative to flowers. As florists we have to keep our minds open to new ideas all the time.
Feel free to contact me about anything you see here or for any of your floral requirements.

I provided this bouquet for a special lady’s 60th Birthday and decided to decorate the box to that theme. I think it makes the box a little more exciting and personalises it to the individual.
These boxes are great as the bouquet can sit in it’s bag of water and the flowers are not overcome by a lot of cellophane and tissue paper, so much better for the environment. Get me trying to save the planet, well it makes sense.
I filled the box with Pink Roses, Pink Wax Flower, White Lisianthus, and some nice Green Ruscus and I finished off with a hessian bow. The golden glittery number 60 was added complete with a couple of champagne glasses, a happy birthday tag on the front and a celebrate tag on the bag……well it is worth celebrating! Any excuse for me.
If you have a celebration coming up or you would like a themed bouquet for someone special please get in touch. You may have someone who loves cupcakes or tea, maybe they are a cat lover or dog lover – I can design a bouquet for every interest. Different eh?
I will include more as I go on so watch this space.
