This is what my office looks like at the moment. Well I don’t really have an office anyway, this is just me doing the admin in my living room. Like many I suppose, this set may look familiar at this time but not everyone has a flower pen eh?
The creativity has stopped for the moment and I have decided to take some time to plan for the future. The fact that my diary is open at August may seem a little optimistic? Well maybe, this National crisis will be over when it’s the right time for it to be over, until then we have to make the best of it. I don’t know about you…..I would like to be well and have the ability to get to August.
So if there is one advantage of a lockdown it is to stop for a moment and think, think about business and where it can go from here. We can all give up or we can find alternative ways to keep going and ride out this storm.
Now that I have a few items on my little store here on my website I will be adding a few more gift ideas on a floral theme. We have some gin glasses (if I haven’t pinched them all), some scarves, mugs, hanging plaques and candles so keep an eye out for those. You can purchase them here through PayPal and I can post them to you.
For further into the future when the studio will be full of blooms again I intend to expand the business with my own range of letterbox flowers and also start offering a flower preservation service for anyone who wants to keep their wedding bouquets or maybe have a keepsake from a loved ones sympathy flowers. I got to thinking that people invest a lot of their savings into flowers, why not be able to hang onto those special ones.
So keep following me here or on my social media pages for any updates. It is a tough time but for me it’s trying to be positive that gets me through. It’s not always possible, there are some days that I feel I take one huge step back but it’s thought of going two big welly style leaps forward that I like……the bigger the wellies the bigger the future……even with my size 5’s I’m in?
A bit of a ‘Throw Back Thursday’ today with a bouquet sent to a lovely customer a while back. Since I haven’t got many new designs to show you at the moment I thought I would go back in time and hey, we need brightening up with some colour I think don’t we?
So how are you doing out there? It’s a very unsettling and worrying time but I do hope you are remaining positive and coping with this lockdown. I feel so frustrated not to have my little shop open and even to be able to do any deliveries but hopefully it won’t be long until we are back and able to spread some flowery love around.
I will be updating this blog regularly with any information regarding COVID-19 and of course will let you know if any restrictions get lifted. Please get in touch either through our website or on our social network sites. For me, mental health is just as important as physical health so although we cannot provide flowers at this time we can provide a voice or a message to keep each other happy. We are here to help at Suzy Blues so please remember that!
Ok my lovelies, keep on doing what you are doing and keep taking that advice from the government, we are in this together and we will come out of this together…..
I’m sure you are seeing a lot of these messages and posts saying that business’s are open as usual but we are. Here at Suzy Blue’s we are keeping an eye on all the updates from the government regarding Covid-19, taking the advice and making sure our hygiene practices are being adhered to. This includes regular hand washing (which we were doing anyway) but also the use of disposable gloves. This is not only for our protection but for you as a customer.
Our floral designs are made with the upmost care and attention and we are keeping as well stocked as possible especially in the coming days leading up to such a big event as Mother’s Day here in the UK.
We do have a delivery service so if you feel like staying away but still being able to order just pick up the phone or message us and we will take care of your order that way. If the person you are buying flowers for is self isolating, make us aware of that and we will deliver with that in mind.
So it is important that we support not just this little business but all small business’s. The next few months are going to be challenging for everyone and scary too, of course it will be as we haven’t had a pandemic affect us in this way, certainly not in my lifetime, and I’m getting on a bit.
If you do have any questions or queries about our services then please do ask. We are happy to help in any way and set your mind at rest about the way we are creating our designs and also how we plan to deliver to keep you all safe…..that is our priority!!
Stay safe, keep well and most important, follow the advice and guidelines given you by the professionals.
Welcome to our new home! We are now situated at Markeaton Park Craft Village in Derby.
Phew! it’s been a busy month getting prepared and ready to open but we are now up and running. It has been such a delight meeting all the lovely people coming through the craft village and getting to know the other business owners too.
We have a range of fresh flowers and plants on sale as well as artificial flowers too. I will eventually be incorporating some craft ideas which include flowers and running some workshops throughout the year so keep an eye out for those.
I do update the Suzy Blues Flowers Facebook page every day so please give us a like there and look out for any offers. Thank you to everyone who has given their support, popped down to see us so far and all those who have just said a quite hello when passing, it really means a lot.
I will be giving this website a bit of a makeover soon to bring it up to date so be prepared for that but it’s all exciting and a new start for Suzy Blues. Come on in and join the fun.
If you can’t get down to the park please get in touch here or give us a call.
Well I’m hoping there is a lot of new exciting things to come from Suzy Blues but for now I do need to tell you about the new Pantone colour for the new year which is Living Coral.
What a beautiful colour and I can’t wait to include this in our new arrangements and displays next year. I think it is a colour which will be adaptable to any occasion, beautiful as part of a summer wedding but also classy in a celebration gift bouquet for that special someone.
I’m looking forward to creating some nice natural bouquets next year with minimal use of plastics and a lot of cellophane. I think the theme of Suzy Blues is going to air on a very cottagey, natural, shabby chic type affair but hey in the floristry world anything goes and I’ll be here for any ideas you have for all occasions.
So here’s to a new year and a new start, Thank you for being here during 2018 and I do hope you stay with us for 2019. Take care and enjoy the celebrations.
A birthday bouquet with a difference. I used a selection of Anthirium, Astilbe, English Larkspur, Vuvuzela Roses, Eucalyptus, Chrysanthemums and Pistacia Leaves in fresh flowers and foliage but added a collar around the bottom of this arrangement with cream artificial Peonies.
This enabled me to decorate the top of the box with flowers rather than packing it with lots of cellophane. It not only looks pretty but the customer gets to keep flowers….forever.
I tied a little tag around one of the artificial flowers saying ‘keep me’ just to remind the customer to keep hold of these flowers and use them elsewhere. A fabric heart pick was also added for that extra little touch too.
I seem to get a lot of requests for the more natural bouquet and people seem to favouring these free meadowy looking flowers which I think works…..after all the customer is always right. I love this type of bouquet as you can literally go a bit wild with it, it doesn’t have to have a uniform shape, nice floaty flowing lines…..oh I’m in floral design heaven. More requests for these please!!
It is a bit frowned upon to even think of putting artificial flowers with fresh ones but I’m breaking the rules and when all the fresh ones die off there will still be a token of this bouquet behind as a reminder and I like that.
We are here for any arrangement in any way you would like it……August sees Gladioulus and the Poppy as birth flowers so why not try a birthday bouquet including any of these blooms….for now though….
Thank you for reading and feel free to enquire about your flowery needs.
If you are treating someone to flowers for their birthday it may be a good idea to look at what their birth flower is. We spend a lot of the time trying to decide what flowers to buy for someone and there are occasions when we are not quite sure. Using someones birth flower can inspire and focus for a fabulous bouquet.
If you were born this month in June you would be looking at the rose for your birth flower. Beautiful flowers which you can’t really go wrong with. Just watch out though as each colour of rose has it’s own meaning. For instance white roses signify innocence and purity, a pink rose means perfect happiness, a red rose says ‘I love you’ but a yellow rose coveys jealousy or a decrease in love so just watch that one.
As we look towards next month, the summery month of July, your birth flower would be the Larkspur. These flowers have a lovely fragrance and also have different meanings depending on the colour. The purple (seen above) symbolises first love, white means happiness and pink denotes contrariness. A good flower for this month as it represents strong bonds of love so a good flower to give to someone who is close to your heart.
I’ll continue to let you know further birth flowers as we continue through the year. Always ask you florist for advice as there are so many meanings to flowers and a good florist will be able to give you inspiration for the perfect bouquet for a gift, event or for sympathy flowers too.
Thank you for reading today…….please get in touch for any floral needs.
